Honda took the top-slot in the UK’s best-selling motorcycle charts last year with the CBR125R. A total of 2738 of the learner-friendly sports machine were sold in 2005, beating the machine in second place by 204 units. As well as being the overall best-seller, the little CBR was also the biggest-seller in the Supersport category.
The CBR125R weighs just 110kilos and has a 124.7cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine which produces 13bhp at 10,000rpm and uses a six-speed gearbox to make the most of the available power. It has disc brakes front and rear and an electric starter.
The 2006 price for the CBR125RW is £2549 on the road. The machine is also available in the exciting Repsol colours of Honda’s factory MotoGP team for £2649. The choice of this colour scheme further strengthens the link between Honda’s championship-winning technology and their road-going machines, no matter how small in capacity.
Ron Haslam uses the CBR125R at his race school. The Honda Ron Haslam Race School allows people of all ages from 12-years up to experience track riding in a safe, controlled environment. Ron says the little CBR is the perfect introductory machine for the novice rider. He added: “With people as young as 12, you need a machine which is easy to use, which doesn’t intimidate the rider, but still a ‘proper’ big bike. The CBR exceeds all our requirements and best of all for the youngsters, it’s still a supersport ‘CBR’ machine.”
The CBR wasn’t the only 125 from Honda to do well as Honda took the top four positions in the 0-125cc motorcycle category. In second place behind the CBR in the category, the Honda SCV100 Lead sold 1867 units, the Honda SES 125 Dylan sold 1451 while the face-lifted Honda CG125 – an evergreen commuter and learner favourite – sold 1265 units.
Honda had a total of four machines in the overall top ten, with the awesome CBR1000RR Fireblade coming in fourth place overall with 2083 sales, the practical SCV100 Lead rating seventh and the British Supersport title-winning Honda CBR600RR coming in 9th place overall with 1558 sales.
